History

Both Elmo and Rietschle are very successful in marking an important milestone in their invention careers for more than one hundred years.

The world's first liquid ring vacuum pump was invented by Elmo and as early as 1903 Elmo was granted the Imperial Patent for this; after three years, a smaller Elmo vacuum pump was used in Germany as the first vacuum cleaner.

The first side channel blower[2] was introduced in 1963 and made a revolution for the vacuum and pressure market. After the turn of the millennium and its spin-off from Siemens, Elmo merged with Nash Industries to form Nash Elmo.

About Werner Rietschle, who started his own company after World War II, became a well-known supplier of vacuum pumps and compressors.

In 2002 Rietschle's company was acquired by Thomas Industries to become Rietschle Thomas.

After many years of operation, both companies were acquired by Gardner Denver in 2005/2006 to form the Elmo Rietschle brand.
