Elsa Hansen Oldham

Elsa Hansen Oldham (born 1986) is an American textile artist. She is known for her figurative cross-stitched depictions of real and fictional people, mythological characters, historical events, and stories, often in the form of hand-sewn and/or machine-stiched quilted tableaus.

Biography[edit]

Born December 23, 1986 in Louisville, Kentucky, Elsa Hansen Oldham studied outdoor recreation at Western Kentucky University before moving to Brooklyn, New York in 2008, where she worked as an urban park ranger at Fort Greene Park.[1] She then spent several years working in the studio of sculptor Tom Sachs before moving to Los Angeles, California.[2]

Her first solo exhibition, titled Eve Through Eve, took place at Simon Dickinson Gallery in New York City.[3]

She married the musician Will Oldham in 2016, and lives with him and their daughter Poppy in Louisville, Kentucky.[4]
