Elvio Becheroni (Italian: [ˈelvɪo bekeronɪ]; 1934 – 2000) was an Italian painter, sculptor, ceramicist and designer. He was born in Florence. He lived in Milan but in his adult life moved in Brasil where he spent the rest of his life. His carrer as an artist started during the 60s when he partecipates in numerous collective expositions and personal ones especially in Milan.

Artistic career[edit]

In 1978 Becheroni leaves Italy and moves to Brasil. His taste and work are then inspired by the untouched nature and especially fine wood quality for its sculptures. After a expedition in the amazon forest, he recovers some tree trunks saved from the flames of a fire and he realized high sculptures symbolizing the nature's suffering due to men activities. For many years he dedicated his artistic career for the environmentalist cause for the survival of the amazon forest.

During his career he designed and realised very different artworks from oil paintings, large wood sculptures and design pieces. Numerous of his works have been sold at different auctions, including 'Situazione di possesso; and Personnaggio con possibilita' sold at Christie's South Kensington 'Christie's Interiors' in 2013.[1] But also the current granite-based bronze statuette for the Prêmio CLAUDIA (Editora Abril), which has been used since 1998. Since then, it has undergone minor modifications such as the slope of the feet and the curvature of the arms, which has been deepened.[2]. The critics committee of the italian Bolaffi / Mondadori Art Annual selected him as one of the best engravers in 1971 and 1982, one of the best painters in 1974, one of the best sculptors in 1982.[3]

In 1980 he also collaborated with Gretta Sarfaty for the Vídeo Gretta & Becheroni: Change and Appropriation of an Autonomous Identity, 1980. A video performance exhibited in the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo but also in Argentina, Italy and the USA.

The last creation of Becheroni, was recently delivered to the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of the Assembly, Emanuel von Lauenstein Massarani.[4]
