Eman Elsweisy is an American actress, an award-winning director, independent filmmaker and a lyricist.[1] [2]

Childhood[edit]

Being the oldest sister, Eman spent most of her childhood as the only child, playing with her Barbies, stuffed animals, and Legos creating characters and an imaginary world of her own enjoying hanging out with her toys, playing video games, and watching movies. She actively participated in professional swimming and fencing clubs and competitions.[3]

Early Life[edit]

After graduating from UHCL, Texas in 2003 with a BS computer science, because of her passion for Arts. Eman accepted a job offer as Digital Content Specialist at Free Music Production “One of the top music and video productions in Egypt. after turning down a job offer from a drilling and oil company in Texas. As a lyricist, Eman wrote some of the most known top songs for stars in Egypt and the Middle East. She is most known for Wad Ya Asmarany (Tanned One) for Hamid El Shaeri, Yateem (Orphan)/Moustafa Shawky, Hassa Demoak (Feeling your tears) /Faty & Zalan (Upset)/ Farida. Arabic poetry structure played a significant role in shaping her English lyrics style as well.[4] [1] [5]

Prior To Acting[edit]

After three years of living in Egypt, Eman decided to return back home to Houston and still focus on her career as a lyricist and thought about acting but was hesitant as she struggled a lot in school as a child thinking she can’t memorize contents. Few months after returning to Houston, Eman suffered from a virus that impacted the nervous system affecting her physical abilities and for a few years delaying her plans. She started teaching at an elementary school in Texas, to support kids emotionally and academically.

A couple of years later not fully recovered, Eman straggled emotionally in her marriage. Having a baby kept her stronger and going. November 2016, Watching the Marvel Film Doctor Strange, motivated by the amazing metaphors in the script, Eman started writing lyrics DOCTOR_STRANGE for the first time in four years at the movies on her jeans. Doctor Strange the film was the spark that reminded her of how strong of a person she is capable. Desiring to enjoy life and not just exist Eman divorced, lost 60lbs, and was fully healed.[1][3][4]

Acting and Filmmaking[edit]

Eman was given a Spanish script at her first audition even though her resume listed English and Arabic as her only languages. When Eman apologized for not speaking Spanish, the professional auditioning Eman started talking in a relatively stressed voice. “Your resume says bilingual… go work on your Spanish, we don’t have time for this”. Recalling her professional skills Eman smiled and wished good luck.

Right after the audition and long drive, Eman reported to an acting class “not her current acting coach”, someone already told the acting coach about what happened as they were at the same audition. The acting coach told Eman “You should keep your hair cover, they will know you are from the middle east and not mistaken you for a Hispanic” Eman responded “I don’t want to cover my hair; I will act for a living. I’m from Houston, Houston is where I grew up”

The acting coach decided to show Vin Diesel Short Film | Multi-Facial (1995) to the class since it has similarities to what happened to Eman at the audition. Eman made a post on Instagram that she is very well known for. Of course, no one believed in her but her.[1]

First Film and First Award[edit]

Eman wrote a short story “Lives In Me” and struggled a lot because no one was interested in being part of the film cast or crew. As she researched filmmaking strategies, she was able to register for an Echo Film School workshop with Barry Atkins who is also an instructor at The_Art_Institute_of_Houston. Working closely with Eman watching her passion and will, Barry accepted to be Eman’s AD and cinematographer. Many actors turned down the roles after accepting including 3 different actors just for the role of Sam two days before the shoot. March 2020, Eman received her first REMI Award from WorldFest-Houston_International_Film_Festival [6] followed by nominations as a director and actress at different festivals for Lives In Me “Drama” and One Dave At A Time “Comedy”[7][8] [9] Eman Elsweisy is focusing on Acting as her main career but also enjoys directing and filmmaking.
