Early life and education[edit]

Ellyn was raised in Mantua, Ohio. Her mother is Carol Hummel, an artist who works with fiber.[1] Her family owned a Christmas tree farm.

Ellyn’s passion for cooking developed as she grew up harvesting food and raising animals on her family's Christmas tree farm in rural Mantua, OH. Motivated at a very early age, Emily even starting her own catering company while still in high school. Emily ultimately went on to college and graduated with a degree in Restaurant Management from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, New York. There, she worked as a teaching assistant until moving to Paris to attend graduate school at Academie Internationale de Management. Emily then went on to earn two master’s degrees in Hospitality Management; one in Paris and one from UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality and Management in Orlando.

Ellyn spends most of her time cooking up fun at food events around the world; all while developing her culinary and lifestyle career. As seen on Food Network’s “Food Network Star,” “Cupcake Wars,” and “Cutthroat Kitchen” [2] as well as the FYI Network, Cooking Channel, morning news shows across the country, and in a cameo cartoon-appearance on "The Simpsons" [3].

In 2012, Ellyn participated in the eighth season of Food Network Star. (description of what the show does and what rounds of competition the contestant goes through, and what the prize was). She joined Team Alton Brown and finished as a Finalist on the series.[2]

In 2013, she appeared in an episode of Cupcake Wars titled "Fan Favorite".[2] (what did she do here? Was she a contestant? a guest judge? a guest participant?)

In 2014, she appeared on the final table as a judge in 2014 for the World Food Championships, (is this another food network show? when did she become a regular on Food Network?)[3]

Appearing in Season 7 of Cutthroat Kitchen, (is she a contestant in this one? when was this) , and judged by Anne Burrell, Emily showcased her skills in Episode 1 "Whatchoo Taco'ing About, Alton?"

Other appearances[edit]

In 2018, Ellyn and her partner Donovan appeared on an episode of HGTV's House Hunters as they searched for their perfect home.[4]
