Emma Burnell
Emma Burnell (born 1975) is a British freelance journalist who has been published in The Guardian, The Independent, The Times, Prospect Magazine and others. She was Contributing Editor of LabourList from 2010 to 2016.[1]. She has also appeared regularly on Sky and the BBC.
Personal Life
She has a younger sister, Catherine, and an adopted brother, Michael[2]. She also wrote extensively about her divorce in 2014[3]. Her grandfather was Statistician Michael Healy.
Education
Burnell was educated at Stoke Newington School in North London[1]. She did her undergraduate degree at the University of Kent[1] and many years later did a Master's Degree in Journalism at University of London, Birkbeck[1].
Career and politics
Burnell spent a number of years working in think tanks and pressure groups including The Fabian Society, The National Housing Federation, the TUC, New Local Government Network and IPPR[1].
She now runs a political consultancy called Political Human[4]. She is also Co-Chair of Open Labour – an activist group in the Labour Party.
Burnell’s journalism largely focuses on politics, but she has also written extensively about being overweight and losing weight and runs a blog on immersive theatre[5]. She also reviews theatre for View From the Cheap Seats[6] and Plays to See[7]
