Emma Jeannette Levy Edelstein
Emma Jeannette Levy Edelstein (1904-1958) was a classical scholar and author.
Born in Germany in 1904, Emma Jeannette Levy-Edelstein studied classics and archeology at the University of Heidelberg, receiving her PhD in 1933. At the University of Heidelberg, she met and subsequently married her husband, noted classicist Ludwig Edelstein in 1929. As both were Jewish, they were forced to flee to the United States from Germany in 1933. There, they collaborated on research and texts and with Edelstein, Levy-Edelstein co-wrote the work Asclepius, Collection and Interpretation in 1945, a work which is considered by many to be the authoritative text on Asclepius.
