Emmarentia Library is a public branch of the City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services (CoJLIS), situated in the suburb of Emmarentia, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is situated at the Corner of Barry Hertzog Avenue, Emmarentia, Johannesburg, 2195.[1] It is one of 90 branches governed by CoJLIS, a city-run system designed to support literacy, lifelong learning, and digital access across Johannesburg.[2]
History
In 1886, Lourens Geldenhuys bought part of Braamfontein, when it was still a farm. He attempted to mine for gold but was unsuccessful. Geldenhuys gave a portion of the farm to one of his sons, Louw. Louw married Emmarentia Margaretha Botha. In 1937, the place Emmarentia was laid out, named after Louw's wife.[3]

the library operates programs like Career Guidance, Coding, Robotics, storytime, Digital and Information Literacy and book review sessions, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing its community through education. Interested users can join the local library.
Besides lending out material, the Library offer a wide-range of other services including literacy classes, storytelling sessions for youngsters, classroom support, gatherings for older residents and literary competitions. It is also a venues for lectures, exhibitions, and talks.

- Science Scuffle, this competition has an overall theme of promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
- Battle of the Books, is a reading and teamwork competition targeted at grade 6 students in Johannesburg, South Africa. The competition is designed to foster a love of reading and to test students' knowledge of the books they have read. Schools from various regions participate, and the competition reaches its peak in October or November.
