Genealogy of Oshisaka no Ōnakatsuhime

Princess Oshizaka Onakatsuhime (Oshizaka no Onakatsuhime, date of birth and death unknown) is the empress of the 19th Emperor Yunkyō. She is the mother of Prince Kinashi Karu (Emperor Crown prince), the 20th Emperor Ankō, and the 21st Emperor Yusaku. The 15th Emperor Ōjin is her grandfather. His father was Prince Wakinoge Niha (Emperor Ojin's prince). His mother is his younger brother Hiyori Shinawakahime (great-grandson of Nippon Takeru). She is the younger half-sister of King Shuttle (the great-grandfather of the 26th Emperor Keitai). Emperor Yunkyou is her husband as well as her paternal cousin.

Life[edit]

In the Nihon Shoki, it is said that on February 14, the second year of Emperor Yunkyou's reign, the Osakabe was established as the nominal department. One of the deputy ministries established at this time was the Land of Hinoshikita. There is a theory that one of the nomadic tribes established at this time was the Land of Fire and Ashikita (Yatsushiro and Ashikita regions of Kumamoto Prefecture). Aso Pink Stone is produced in this area, and since this stone is used for the sarcophagus of the Tombun in the Kawachi Plain, some people believe that there is some relationship between the two.

When the Empress was unmarried, she was playing alone in the garden when a cockfighting Kunizo (Kakunokun) on a horse passed by on the road beside her. The Kunizo sneered, "Can you garden well, boy?" and made rude remarks such as, "Come on, Toho, take one of those orchids over there," to which the Princess replied, "I will not forget you, O head. The Princess, who later became the Empress, sought out the Kunizo who had acted so rudely and tried to have him put to death, but the Kunizo said, "My crime is death. But I did not know at the time that you would become a nobleman," and so the empress pardoned her death and changed her family name to Inaki.

She became Empress Dowager on December 14, 42nd year of Emperor Yunkyou, the same day as Emperor Ankang's Enthronement.
