encyc.org is a web-based encyclopedia with thousands of high-quality articles. Unlike wikipedia, which can be edited by anyone, its writers are selected on the basis of not only established scholarly expertise and writing ability but also emotional stability. This reflects the concerted desire of the founders and administrators to avoid editing wars, propagation of misinformation, trolling, selective deletion of biographies of living persons, editing based on personal vendetta, poor grammar and spelling, vandalism, and other practices that permeate wikipedia. As a result of this philosophy, it is read-only except for the stable of selected writers.
