English Breakfast Society

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The English Breakfast Society is a learned society of Fellows, and a non-profit organisation.[1], dedicated to the history, culture, and tradition of the full English breakfast. The English Breakfast Society conducts research into the origins, stories and culture of the English breakfast, publishing their research on their website for journalists to use as original source material in their articles, and for the public as an educational resource. The English Breakfast Society website receives millions of visitors every year from all over the world, and is the most popular website on the internet dedicated to the subject.

The Society recognises those who contribute culturally to the English breakfast tradition in some way, awarding them Honorary Fellowships[2] as a way of honouring their contributions to the tradition, and their Honorary Fellowship program accepts nominations from members of the public who wish to honour their peers for their contributions to the tradition.

Fellows of the English Breakfast Society include Dr Kaori O'Connor, author of The English Breakfast: Biography of a National Meal[3], Guise Bule, author of the English Breakfast Handbook[4], and celebrity Dave Courtney OBE, lead actor in the Full English Breakfast movie[5].

Members of the English Breakfast Society appeared in the last documentary series made for the BBC by the late Sir Terry Wogan before his death, Terry & Mason's Great Food Trip[6], where they ate an English breakfast on television with Sir Wogan to discuss the history of the English breakfast tradition. The episode was filmed in the market town of Devizes in the historic Bear Hotel, because Sir Terry had once read a book called Epicurean Tour Of Britain[7], written by a food writer called Sam Chamberlain who had previously embarked on a great culinary adventure around the British Isles, and who had previously eaten this same English breakfast at the same Bear Hotel more than fifty years before[8].

The English Breakfast Society provides public relations services around the English breakfast tradition and voluntarily collaborates with journalists working on articles about the English breakfast, providing research, opinion, commentary and analysis. They have been recognised for their support and mentioned in articles published by Country Life Magazine[9], BBC Travel[10], The Daily Telegraph[11], The Washington Post[12], National Geographic[13], The Times[14], the Daily Express[15], and Vice[16], and its Fellows have previously appeared on Sky News, GB News, BBC Radio and a large number of newspapers, magazines and radio stations[17].

As a way of globally popularising the English breakfast tradition, the Society launched International English Breakfast Day[18] on December 2nd 2012[19][20][21], a decade later English Breakfast Day is celebrated annually, every December the 2nd, by millions of English breakfast fans and celebrated by the hospitality industry, and in the international media[22][23]
