Enno Schmidt (* November 14th, 1958 in Osnabrück) is a german artist and activist of the universal Unconditional Basic Income UBI. He is co-founder of the Basic Income Initiative in Switzerland.[1] and in Taiwan[2]. He lives in Basel.

Life and Career[edit]

Enno Schmidt grew up in Osnabrück and studied painting at the Städelschule, in Frankfurt am Main. He exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad and was awarded the Frankfurt Art Prize of the Lions Club.

In 1989 he took part in innovation talks in an industrial company, brought in new ideas with the perception of an artist, brought the company and other artists together for the start of the art and economic future project 'Tree-Cross'[3], Avenue Kassel-Eisenach, became co-founder of 'Enterprise Art and Economy - Expanded, Ltd', whose managing director he was until 1996. Schmidt is a member of the Social Sculpture Research Unit[4] of Oxford Brookes University and was involved in the establishment of the Zukunftsstiftung Soziales Leben[5] in the trust office of GLS Bank in Bochum. At the Interfacultative Institute for Entrepreneurship at the University of Karlsruhe, the chair of Götz Werner, he held a teaching position according to his own concept from 2005 to 2007. 

In 2006 Enno Schmidt and the entrepreneur Daniel Häni founded the Initiative Grundeinkommen Schweiz in Basel. His film „Grundeinkommen – ein Kulturimpuls“, which he released together with Daniel Häni in 2008, reached over a million viewers and was translated into 20 languages. In October 2013, the initiative was able to submit 126,000 signatures for a referendum on the introduction of the unconditional basic income in Switzerland in Berne, which led to the national referendum (Volksabstimmung Schweiz) on 5 June 2016. The campaign and actions of the Basic Income Initiative received worldwide media coverage[6] and stimulated discussion in many countries. Enno Schmidt works in the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) and is internationally active as an initiator and lecturer[7]
