Enos Masheija Rwantale Kiremire (born 15th February, 1945)[1] is a Ugandan chemist, author[2] and an educator.[2][3][4] He is a retired professor of inorganic chemistry, taught at the University of Namibia.[4] He is board member at National Planning Authority of Uganda.[1]

Background and education

Kiremire was born in Bwanga village, Nyarushanje sub county Rukungiri district, western Uganda[1][3] to a family of Mr. Yowasi Kiremire and Late Erivaida Kineiremu.[1]

Kiremire went to Katungu church school (1953 to 1955), Karukata Primary School (1956) and Kakyinga Primary School Kebisoni (1957 to 1958) for his primary education, he was admitted at Kihanga Junior Secondary school in Rukiga (1959).[1] He went to Kigezi College Butobere, Kabale for Ordinary level from 1961 to 1964, he attended Makerere College School Kampala for Advanced level.[1] He holds a bachelors degree of science in chemistry from Makerere University which he got in march 1970.[1][3] He has a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry specialising in the chemistry of trasitional metals from the University of New Brunswick.[1][3]

Career

Kiremire worked at Namulonge Research Centre as a soil chemist from April to July 1970 and then worked as a special assistant at chemistry department from July 1970 to 1971.[1] In 1971, he moved to Canada as a commonwealth Scholar where he studied his PhD.[1] Kiremire worked as a Professor at University of Namibia under the department of chemistry and biology from 2006 to 2016.[5][2][3]

Kiremire is a board member at National Planning Authority of Uganda.[1]

Discovery of anti-malarial compounds

Kiremire, while at the Univerity of Namibia synthesised compounds using the trasitional metals that were active against the malaria parasites.[1][3] These compounds were patented both locally in Namibia and internationally by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Switzerland where seven of the compounds were recognised and approved in 2011.[1][3]

Discovery of natural laws of chemical clusters

Kiremire discovered the natural rules for groups of chemicals under the Chemical Cluster Theory.[6][1][3][7] This theory looks at all chemicals and their original elements as groups.[8] This is because the simple math created for this idea works for chemicals grouped together or for single elements.[1] The atomic number (Z) lets scientists put chemical elements into rows (Periods) and columns (Groups) called a periodic table. This helped understand how elements combine, like Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen (O) making Water (H2O), or Nitrogen (N) and Hydrogen (H) making Ammonia (NH3).[1]

The use of skeletal number (K) made it possible to arrange not just compounds, but also their elements, into a bigger chart of groups and rows called a skeletal formula.[9] It was found that all chemical elements have skeletal numbers as fractions, however, the compounds made from these elements and their related forms have whole numbers.[9] The fact that compounds make whole numbers is one of these natural rules.[9] By using skeletal numbers, many kinds of chemical clusters and their shapes can now be understood.[9][10] These include groups like Boranes, Metalloboranes, Metal Carbonyls, Golden Clusters, and Zintl Ions.[2]
