Ereke Day
Ereke day is a carnival[1] among the people of Ikenne Remo in ogun state, Nigeria. It's usually celebrated on the first week of November. People come[2] from various parts of Nigeria to celebrate the people of Ikenne.
History[edit]
Ikenne ereke carnival started in 1976, through the establishment of IDA Ikenne Development association, it has been an avenue where people from Ikenne town commission project for the betterment of their community, it became more elaborate in the 21st century.
It usually started a week before the first Saturday in November, with many side attractions during the week.
Football competition however may start earlier, with the final of the competition being played during the week.
Last Saturday in October serves as a date for general marathon free for those who are interested and sometimes sponsored by some notable individuals.
Match past, age grade clubs parades, Friday jumat service are other event which occurs during the week.
Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo was part of the notable people who Grace the occasion[3][4][5]
Miss Ereke[edit]
Miss Ereke is a beauty pageant competition among the ladies in the community. The winner usually wins an all expenses paid trip to London, until 2016 when it was scrapped due to abuse of the privilege by past winners. Then it was replaced by a brand new car and other prizes.[citation needed]
Artist like slimcase[6] perform at the Miss Ereke beauty pageant.
