Eric Newcomer (born September 7, 1989) is an American independent journalist known for his independent outlet Newcomer. He was previously a technology reporter for Bloomberg and The Information. He covers technology, Silicon Valley, and the venture capital industry.

Early life and education

Newcomer spent his early years in Pennsylvania and later moved to Macon, Georgia, attending high school at nearby Central High School.[1]. He majored in philosophy at Harvard University, also writing for the Harvard Crimson about on-campus topics including a four-part series on sexual assault at the school. [2]

Career

After internships at the Tampa Bay Times, Sun Sentinel, and his hometown Macon Telegraph, Newcomer was the first hire at The Information in 2013.[3][4] He spent six years covering technology at Bloomberg. [5]

In 2020, Newcomer left Bloomberg to write an independent subscription newsletter on venture capital and the technology industry.[6]. As of December 2022, his newsletter had over 42,000 subscribers and was one of the top tech newsletters on Substack.[7]
