Erik Markus Schuetz (born 25 January 1973, Germany[1]) is a German actor, director, stunt-action coordinator, stuntman and martial artist. Schuetz is best known for playing Gary in The Sanctuary, Schmidt in Kill ´Em All and Pearl Harbour in Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior . Schuetz has also appeared in Jackie Chan´s The Medallion , Steven Seagal´s Belly of the Beast , The 5th Commandment - Du sollst nicht töten, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and many others.

Career[edit]

Erik Markus Schuetz was born in Germany, grew up involved in many activities and sport, learning to ski and ride motorcycles at a young age. His passion has been movies ever since. Like many martial artists, he was inspired by Bruce Lee. By age 11 Schuetz was formerly training in gymnastics and karate. By 16 he was lifting weights and boxing and started working as a bouncer with age 18. Schuetz started searching for more effective ways in training and discovered Muay Thai. Schuetz fought as a professional in Thailand, Spain and the United States.

Schuetz found and explored his passion filmmaking as teenager with a Super 8 handheld camera. He filmed action scenes with friends in the backyard and directed Mini Films in Germany. Schuetz has directed his first stage play, The Barber of Seville, in Germany by the age of 13.

Schuetz has many years experience in movie making, working with Oliver Stone, Jackie Chan, Ching Siu-Tung, Gordon Liu, Samuel L. Jackson and Ray Stevenson, among others. He worked as line producer for a U.S. action film titled Blood Ties which won several awards such as “Best Action Film of the Year” at the Action On Film Festival in Los Angeles 2008. Schuetz appeared in Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior (2003, Prachya Pinkaew), The Protector (2005, Prachya Pinkaew), Beautiful Boxer (2004, Ekachai Uekrongtham). Leading parts in The Sanctuary (2009, Thanapon Maliwan) with Russell Wong and Kill ´Em All (2012, Raimund Huber) with Gordon Liu (Kill Bill) followed.

Besides that Schuetz appeared in over 100 TV commercials worldwide and acted in various TV soaps in Thailand, including Khu Kam and Narok tua Soodthay. As stunt coordinator and stunt driver he was on tour with Thai band Bodyslam.

In September 2012, Schuetz directed his first short film Reactions with Johnny Messner as lead. The film won the Special Honors Award at the Third International Film And Game Festival Munich.[citation needed] In between Schuetz has shot several trailers and a Kung-Fu parody with the title Doen Fu. Das Dritte Ich (2013) and Temps (2013) are the latest short films done by Schuetz.

In late 2013, Schuetz finished his part as Stanley in Jalmari Helander´s Big Game (2014) with Samuel L. Jackson and Ray Stevenson for Bavaria Film Group in Germany.
