Erik Thiele (born 3 February 1997) is a German freestyle wrestler.[1]

Career

Erik Thiele began wrestling in 2002 at the age of six, training with SV Braunsbedra. His father Sven Thiele, a former freestyle wrestler and three-time Olympian (1996, 2000, 2004), supported his early development in the sport.[2]

At the junior level, Thiele collected several national and international medals. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Cadet European Championships in Katowice and another bronze at the 2013 Junior European Championships in Skopje. In 2015, he took silver at the Junior European Championships in Istanbul (96 kg), followed by another silver medal at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Mâcon.[3]

At the national level, he won the German senior championship titles in 2018, 2019 and 2022, and placed second in 2016 and 2023.[4]

In 2024, Thiele represented Germany at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the men's freestyle 97 kg category. He was eliminated in the round of 16 by Cuba’s Roberti Dingashvili, finishing 15th overall.[5]
