Ermin Hamidovic, also known as "Ermz", is an Australian entrepreneur, music producer & YouTuber. Born in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he moved to Germany during the Yugoslav Wars before immigrating to Australia in 1994. After graduating from JMC Academy in 2007, he began his career in music production under the name Systematic Productions.[1].

In 2012, he authored "The Systematic Mixing Guide"[2] and established himself as a mastering engineer, working with notable artists such as Architects, Periphery, and Plini[3].

In 2018, Ermin co-founded SubMission Audio[4][5], a software development company that specializes in professional audio tools. Alongside his professional pursuits, he also maintains a YouTube presence under the alias "Ermz," creating a variety of content related to motorsport and sim-racing[6].

Early Life & Education[edit]

Ermin Hamidovic was born on February 9th, 1987 in Bijeljina, Bosnia-Herzegovina. His father was a radio host and his mother a student. As an only child, Ermin grew up surrounded by his extended family in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia until the Yugoslav Wars forced his family to move to Berlin, Germany in 1992.[7]

Due to visa issues, Ermin and his parents moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1994. From a young age, Ermin displayed an aptitude for computers, which he would later combine with his passion for playing guitar to study music production[8]

In 2007, Ermin graduated from JMC Academy with a Bachelor Degree in Sound Engineering & Music Production. He also took advantage of opportunities to connect with music industry figures, such as Ola Englund, Glenn Fricker, and Adam "Nolly" Getgood, through his participation in the 'golden age' of the Andy Sneap message board during the early to mid 2000s.[9]

Career[edit]

In 2005, while studying at JMC Academy, Ermin established Systematic Productions, which would serve as the foundation for his early music production work. Through this business, he began working with the local metal music scene in Melbourne, Australia as both a live and studio engineer.

By 2011, Ermin had amassed a wealth of experience as a metal mixing engineer, and this expertise led to the publication of the critically acclaimed book, 'The Systematic Mixing Guide' in 2012[10]. This guidebook brought Ermin international recognition as a leading voice in heavy music production.

Ermin's career as a mastering engineer took off in 2014 after his work on Periphery's 'Juggernaut' albums. This opportunity led to many collaborations with a wide range of artists, including Architects, Plini, and Animals As Leaders, among many others.[11]

Ermin focused predominantly on mastering engineering until 2018, when he joined forces with Andrew Scott to co-found SubMission Audio. The company was established to capitalize on the growing trend of virtual bass instruments[12]. In 2020, SubMission Audio made its mark in the audio production industry with the release of Flatline, their first general-purpose audio production plugin.

During the global lockdowns in the same year, Ermin leveraged the opportunity to create a YouTube channel revolving around automotive and sim racing content under the alias "Ermz". Presently, the channel has over 120k subscribers and 25 million total video views.

In November 2022, Ermin collaborated with Kohle Audio Kult to develop the "Metal Mastering 101" course.[13]

Submission Audio[edit]

Founded in 2018 by Ermin and Andrew Scott, SubMission Audio is a software development company, specializing in professional audio plugins.

The company was established alongside the release of their flagship product, EuroBass, a virtual instrument that was specifically designed to cater to the growing trend of virtual bass adoption in the metal music genre.[14]

The company soon revised their product with updated technology, leading to the launch of EuroBass 2 in 2019 - used on notable soundtracks such as DOOM: Eternal[15] - leading to SubMission Audio quickly becoming known as one of the premier virtual bass specialists in the industry.

The launch of Flatline in 2020 marked a turning point for the company - establishing their intentions to create general-purpose workhorse audio tools alongside virtual instruments. This year also saw the launch of the company's signature virtual bass line - teaming up with notable industry bassists Simon Grove & Jacob Umansky to create products capturing each player's unique style.

YouTube[edit]

Ermin had been dabbling with YouTube since 2018, but it wasn't until early 2020 that his channel, "Ermz," took off. He struck prominence with a video featuring the then-new video game Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, which resulted in his subscriber count growing from 100 to over 3,000 in one week[16]. As the global lockdowns in 2020 created a surge of interest in online content, Ermin seized the opportunity to pivot his channel towards motorsport and sim racing.

The "Ermz" channel quickly gained traction in the sim racing niche, with Ermin focusing on creating entertaining and informative videos rather than competitive events, which is the norm for many sim-racing creators. The channel features a diverse collection of themed races, reviews, and news pieces.

As of 2023, the channel has over 120k subscribers and 25 million total video views[17]. However, the channel is currently on indefinite hiatus as Ermin works to create a new content schedule.
