Ernest Oppenheimer Hall, or simply EOH, (previously Cottesloe Residence) is a male only residence at the University of the Witwatersrand. The residence forms part of the Parktown Cluster (EOH, Knockando and Parktown Village) and is located on the Parktown Campus of the University.[1]
History[edit]
EOH was one of the first residences that the University of Witwatersrand established. Ex-servicemen were housed in the residence while they tried to return to a normal civilian life by pursuing careers in medicine or engineering.[2]
Architecture[edit]
In the common room and the dining room, thick timber columns curve into beams that support the roof structure. These are a unique feature and give the Hall some value in terms of the architecture. Large green trees that provide shading and form a meeting point for the residents in the courtyard spaces, give the Ernest Oppenheimer Hall a sense of grandeur. This adds to the aesthetic value of the residence.[2]
