Ernest Schilders (born 28 December 1965) is a Belgian Orthopaedic Surgeon and Professor of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Leeds Beckett University. [1]
Schilders is best know for his treatment of high performance athletes and the discovery of the Pyramidalis-anterior pubic ligament-adductor longus complex (PLAC). [2]
Early life and education[edit]
Schilders was born in Antwerp, Belgium. He was educated at the Our Lady College, Antwerp before attending the University of Antwerp in 1984.[3]
Career[edit]
Schilders is a specialist in minimally-invasive hip surgery, with expertise in hamstring problems, complex groin pain and hip arthroscopy.[4]
Since 2015 Schilders has been a consultant orthopaedic hip and groin surgeon at the Fortius Clinic in London. The clinic specialises in orthopaedics and sports medicine.[4][5] He also leads The London Hip Arthroscopy Centre at the Wellington Hospital, London.[6]
In 2015 Schilders became a Professor of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Leeds Beckett University.[1]
In 2023, Schilders received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Radiologists.[7]
Personal life[edit]
Schilders is married to Belgian academic Dr. Annick Paternoster, with whom he shares three children. They live in London.
