Ernesto António da Silva Maciel was a Portuguese magistrate, recognized for his work behind the scenes in the field of justice during the 1980s and 1990s. He was born in Porto and spent most of his life in Coimbra, where he passed away (year of death unknown).
A graduate in Law, he began his career as a public prosecutor in the Public Ministry of Portugal. In the 1980s, he served as deputy director of the Judiciary Police.
In January 1988, he was appointed chief of staff to the then Minister of Justice, José Soeiro Borges.[1]
The following year, he became chief of staff to the Attorney General of the Republic, a position he held for more than a decade during the tenure of José Narciso da Cunha Rodrigues.[2]
Later promoted to Deputy Attorney General, Ernesto Maciel also served on the Consultative Council of the Attorney General’s Office and contributed to legal opinions and the administration of the public prosecution service.
In 2000, he transitioned to a reserve status,[3] remaining active in advisory roles and occasionally participating in public discourse on legal matters.
In 2004, he gave statements to the press on legal cases.[4]
