Ernesto Savio

Ernesto Savio (San Giovanni al Natisone, October 16, 1899 - Genoa, April 24, 1945) was an Italian partisan who was part of the 576th Garibaldi SAP Rizzolio Brigade.[1]

Of Friulian origins, Ernesto Savio, battle name "Tino", served as a fighter starting from 1 July 1944 and became part of the 576th Garibaldi SAP "Rizzolio" Brigade[2], operating in the VI Zone, in Genoa[3] On 24 April 1945, the day of the uprising in the Ligurian capital, Savio was mowed down by a barrage of machine guns from some German soldiers near the station in the Cornigliano district.
On 28 August 1984 the old Piazza Ninfeo was dedicated to him, named "Piazza Ernesto Savio - fallen for Freedom" by resolution of the municipality of Genoa.[4]
