Erson Zymberi

Early life and education

Zymberi was born in Gjilan, Kosovo. He was raised in a family closely connected to theatre: his father, Naser Zymberi, was a long-time member of the Gjilan Theatre ensemble and later its director (1999–2003), while his brother, Ernest Zymberi, is also an actor. During the 1990s, when Albanian cultural workers were expelled from public institutions by the Serbian authorities, the Zymberi family home served as an improvised rehearsal space for the Gjilan actors before their productions were staged in the House of Culture in Perlepnicë. Growing up in this environment played a significant role in shaping his artistic development. During this period, Zymberi also worked professionally as a photographer, operating his own studio, an experience that later informed the visual dimension of his directorial work.

Early career

Zymberi began directing professionally in 2007 with productions at the Gjilan City Theatre and ODA Theatre. Early works include Kumbara (2007), Sex, rrena dhe pata t’egra (2008), and Gjithçka 1.5 (2008).

Leadership positions

In 2008, Zymberi served as Artistic Director of the Gjilan City Theatre, and in 2014 he became Chair of its Governing Council. On 5 July 2018 he was elected the founding Chair of the Association of Public City Theatres of Kosovo (ATQK), established in the Gjilan Theatre.

Since 2018, Zymberi has served as General Director of the Gjilan City Theatre.
