He was entrusted with managing the endowment of the Monastery of Paromeos, where he resolved endowment problems for 10 years. In 1890, Pope Kyrollos V promoted him to the rank of hegumen and appointed him president of the monastic school in Cairo.
His bishopric
On October 17, 1897, Pope Cyril V ordained him Bishop of the Monastery of Paromeos, with the name Esizarous. He was 30 years old. On December 31, 1897, the Synod issued a decision to defrock Anba Esizarous. He bought a house near the Patriarchate in Azbakeya and prepared a private church there. He was widely active in publishing magazines and writing books.[1] In April 1941, reconciliation was finally reached between Anba Esizarous and Pope John XIX, on the condition that he would not perform any priestly work other than the sanctification of the sacraments.
He was a contemporary of Archdeacon Habib Girgis, owner of Al-Karma magazine, Father Menassa Youhanna, owner of Al-Firdaws magazine, and Father Philotheos Ibrahim.
On January 19, 1942, Bishop Esizarous passed away at the age of 75. When Pope John XIX knew about the death, he wrote an obituary in Al-Ahram newspaper on January 20, 1942, in which he said, “His Holiness Pope John XIX, Pope and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, mourns with deep sorrow the late Bishop Esizarous. Prayers will be performed over his body at the Great Cathedral of St. Mark in Al-Darb Al-Wase’ at 3:00 PM, and from there to the cemetery of Abu Sefein in Old Cairo.”
