Eskandar Tooma
Eskandar Tooma (Arabic: إسكندر طعمه) is an Egyptian academic, financial economist, and governance expert. Since July 2025, he serves as the Non-executive Chairman of the EGX-listed Orascom Development Egypt (ODE), the largest subsidiary of Orascom Development Holding AG, a Swiss-based developer of integrated communities across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. His appointment followed a previous tenure as Group CFO and executive Director of the Group from 2013 to 2016, during which he led major restructuring and capital raise activities.[1]
Tooma had a career in academia for over two decades as a tenured Professor of Finance and the founding head of the Finance Unit at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He also served as a visiting professor at Imperial College Business School, contributing to international finance education and research. His research focuses on market microstructure, arbitrage, and financial regulation, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals.[2]
Tooma has held several non-executive board positions in several companies, including Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Egypt Post, Madinat Masr, Taaleem[3], Egyptian Resorts Company, B Investments[4], and the oversight board of the HSBC Egypt Money Market Fund, among others. He is a member of the board of trustees of Manara School. [5]
Early Life and Education
Tooma completed his undergraduate education at the American University in Cairo and later earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Adelphi University in New York. He holds two master’s degrees—one in finance from Adelphi University and another in international economics and finance from Brandeis University. He also obtained his Ph.D. in finance from the International Business School at Brandeis University in the United States.Tooma was also a professional basketball player. He played for Adelphi University[6] He also represented Egypt in international competitions including the 1997 World Championships in Australia.[7]
