Established Telemedicine Programs
Telemedicine, which is defined as the use of information and communications technology for the exchange of medical information and delivery of medical care, has been introduced as an alternative to the traditional model of care with the aim improving access to and reducing the cost of quality healthcare. An increasing number of research papers and reports have published in the past few decades describing applications, outcomes, and challenges of telemedicine projects. However, a low proportion of telemedicine projects survive beyond research projects or after the seeding funds ceases. One of the main barriers to the sustainability of telemedicine programs is the lack of an appropriate business plan. To learn from the experience gained in this field, a number of established and (long-)running telemedicine programs are listed here. Information regarding the aim and scope of programs, business models, providers and recipients, performance, etc will be gradually added to this list to make it a comprehensive collection of diverse models of telemedicine programs that are implemented and running around the world.
