Ethan Baker

Ethan Baker is a public figure in Troy, Michigan.[1] An attorney by trade, he currently serves as a member of the Troy City Council and is the Mayor Pro Tem of Troy. In 2018, Baker was a candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives. He is currently running for Mayor of the City of Troy.[2]

Career and Education[edit]

Baker graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in political science, before pursuing a law degree from the Whittier College School of Law. As an attorney, Baker specializes in elder law & estate planning, business law, and real estate.[3] In 2006, he founded the Law Offices of Ethan D. Baker, a law firm with branches in Michigan and California.[4]

In addition to his legal career, Baker served as a special assistant to former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in their post-presidency, working in the Los Angeles office. Upon the death of president Reagan in 2004, Baker played a role in the former president's state funeral and burial.

Baker has been an active member of the community of Troy, Michigan. He has served on Hills of Charnwood board for ten years, serving as the organization's president for nine of those years.[5]

Electoral career[edit]

Troy City Council[edit]

In November 2015, Baker was elected as a member of the City Council of Troy, Michigan, later appointed as Mayor Pro Tem of the city.[6] As a city councilman, Baker has supported community funding and reforms.

2018 Michigan House of Representatives election[edit]

On January 1, 2018, Baker declared his candidacy for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 41st district.[7] In a close primary, Baker was defeated by only a few hundred votes.

2019 Mayoral Campaign[edit]

On September 17, 2019, Baker officially entered the race for Mayor of the City of Troy. As both a member of the city council and mayoral candidate, Baker has advocated for transparency, protecting the welfare of Troy's citizens, and investigations on city council to maintain government integrity.[8]

Personal life[edit]

Ethan Baker is married to Bethany, a family therapist based in Troy, Michigan. They have three children, Arden, Canaan, and Aven.[9]
