Ethan McBride

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ethan McBride is a political personality and Democratic Party operative in the US state of Texas.

McBride has a history of experience in LGBT rights activism,[1] student organizing, and progressive campaign politics.

McBride entered the world of campaign politics as the primary point of contact for the 2018 Beto O'Rourke senate campaign in Nacogdoches, Texas.

After organizing two successful O'Rourke town halls, McBride was hired as Assistant Communications Director by the Brent Beal congressional campaign. At the same time, McBride was founding the Progressive Student Coalition, a student organization at Stephen F. Austin State University. The Progressive Coalition was tasked with unifying all left-leaning student groups on campus. The organization's earliest focus was on defending the local immigrant community, promoting women in leadership, and fighting for stronger sexual assault awareness and prevention in the community.

The Progressive Student Coalition continues on as a driving force for progressive activism in east Texas. After a few months of work in the Beal Campaign he was asked to join the Kim Olson for Agriculture Commissioner Campaign as the statewide data manager and volunteer coordinator.

McBride was promoted to the role of field director for the Kim Olson for Agriculture Commissioner Campaign after developing a statewide organization strategy. McBride is currently leading a coordinated campaign strategy involving campaigns at the local, regional, and statewide level on behalf of the Olson campaign.

McBride is regularly seen giving his take on state politics on local television and in various east Texas publications.

In the summer of 2017 he founded an LGBT+ rights group called Pride of East Texas (POET).

POET's first main focus was centered around protesting the anti-trans "bathroom-bill",<ref name="KTRE"> a piece of legislation that was being considered by the state legislature at the time. The Bathroom-bill targeted transgender youth in Texas public schools and was predicted to increase LGBT teen suicide and bullying rates across the state. McBride's leadership as the chair of POET's Executive Committee is credited with bringing together the myriad of progressive and centrist political interests across East Texas to pressure several right-wing state legislators to withdraw their support for the anti-trans legislation.

As a part of McBride's transgender youth support effort, POET became the first LGBT+ group to organize a major pride event in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area.

McBride was born and raised in Nederland, Texas. He attended Nederland high school (NHS) from 2013-2016, during which time he served as Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, Team Captain of the UIL Extemporaneous speaking team, and in several other leadership positions.

McBride's primary focus during his time at NHS was on strengthening the local Key Club and promoting other community service organizations.

In August 2016 he became a student at Stephen F. Austin State University where he studies political science, French, and public administration.
