Ethan Wayne Ruedlinger is the adoptive son of Leonard Wayne Ruedlinger (February 15th, 1945-Living) and Connie Lynn (Duncan) Ruedlinger (February 11th, 1947-Living), who adopted him at birth, and who also adopted his biological mother at the age of 10; and the DNA-confirmed biological son of Sean Lynn Cockerham (August 1977-Living) and Jami Lynn Ruedlinger (November 1st, 1979-January 10th, 2011). His parents' biographies are featured in his book, Mom & Dad: The Biography of Leonard And Connie Ruedlinger. Ethan Ruedlinger has a complex family history involving both adoption and biological ties, which he has publicly documented in his autobiographical works and genealogical research. As an amateur genealogist, Ruedlinger has traced his family history back dozens of generations and across hundreds of families. He published some of this research in his book series A Record Of The Notable Ancestry Of The Ruedlingers, where he mentions his goal of recording and cataloging the family's history for future generations. Ruedlinger's genealogical research shows that his family is connected to several U.S. presidents, including Calvin Coolidge, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Barack Obama.
