Eti Gıda San. ve Tic. A.Ş

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hi Legacypac, I used to live in Turkey for a few years, Eti was a major company already 15-20 years ago. I moved in UK in 2005, and I do find their products here as well. My wife used to work for a competitor, and she was telling me that Eti was in the top 3 of their sector in Turkey. Whoever is trying to write this page probably just needs some help, Eti is gonna be notable, they just need to find some good sources to show it properly.

  • Reply The sources indicate that Eti Gida is one of several companies under the Eti Group. Eti Gida is 100% owned by the Kanatli Family. Eti Gida is not publicly listed because it's not public, (shares are not up for sale because 100% family owned) however sources do indicate that the Eti Group operates in the Istanbul Stock Exchange involving buying and selling of shares other than shares of Eti Gida, so it can be both in that sense. That it is the third largest company is established in the article by good sources so there should not be an issue there. GlobSec
  • User:GlobalSecretary I agree with the others, it cannot be both, if it is 100% family owned then the group can not own any of it. The source for the family ownership reads to me that the family control 100% of the groups companies, and own all along with the Islamic Development Bank. So no mention of being listed on an exchange, not that they own 100%. Without a source the Stock Exchange claim should be removed. Side Note: if you look in preview the infobox has 5 invalid parameters. Also puff terms like "industry pioneer" ned to be removed. KylieTastic (talk) 19:51, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • KylieTastic Perhaps the holding operates in the stock exchange but not the 'flagship' company. I can't find the source of the stock exchange claim so i suppose it could indeed be removed. The Turkish page which this was likely translated from, Eti (şirket), supports the claim of the Istanbul Stock Exchange however. This also explains the invalid parameters that the Turkish language version of the infobox does have. About puff terms I agree that they should be avoided however in this case the company is indeed an industry pioneer being the first company in Turkey to introduce several now major types of products which is supported in the "Products" section.--GlobalSecretary (talk) 20:22, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi User:GlobalSecretary, I see where the claim came from but as you say the link from the Turkish version is not valid. Possibly it was made up, or maybe they used to be listed and once they took back ownership (along with the bank) they de-listed. However the editor who added the claim is now blocked on the Turkish Wikipedia. "industry pioneer" unsourced is a puff term, saying they the first company in Turkey to introduce several types of product is a more encyclopedic way to say it and makes it clear what is meant. I also noticed the shares section reads backwards, "Etis market company sold 26% of OYAK shares to Eti Gıda, Eti Gıda also purchased 29% of OYAK shares from TAM Gıda" is wrong if I'm reading the source correct its more like "1 "OYAK sold it's 26% share of the Etis market company and it's 29% holding of TAM Gıda to Eti Gıda on June 1 2012, leaving the family and the Islamic Development Bank in ownership"
  • KylieTastic I have sourced the pioneer terminology now. Also about the shares part, if I literally translate the source it reads: "Eti's market companies 26% OYAK shares, 29% OYAK shares at TAM Gida were sold to Eti Gida. Like this in Eti's structure the only shareholder outside of the family and group left was the Islamic Development Bank".--GlobalSecretary (talk) 21:30, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • I believe this company may not be publicly listed as i can not find it at Istanbul Stock Exchange - Listed Companies. I believe this may be due to that the company is family owned and therefore does not buy or sell shares.

Eti, Eti Gıda A.Ş. is a major Turkish food company that was founded in 1962 by Firuz Kanatlı (1932 - 18 October 2017)[3] in Eskişehir. Crackers, cookies, cupcakes, cake, chocolate, Neapolitan wafers, baby formula and processed food are among the types of food it produces. It is an industry pioneer for these types of food in Turkey. The Eti company, uses the Hittite Sun Course as their logo.[4][5] The company is also the main sponsor of Eskişehirspor.

Eti and rival Ulker are the two pioneering companies that pushed the industrialization of Turkeys food sector.[6]

Products[edit]

Eti, has joined the words "Eti" and "ekmek" (bread) and has created a "marca" that has turned into a regular noun used also by other food industry brands, to cover the word "rusk" in Turkish.
Sesame sticks

Eti is among the top food companies in Turkey since 1962[7] with crackers that have become synonymous with the Eti[8], name and with other popular products including breakfast cereals, light and high fiber products, chocolates[9][10] and chocolate products, biscuits[11], Neapolitan wafers[12], baby foods and cupcakes/muffins and cakes. Turkeys first fiberous cracker Burçak[13], the first pre-toasted bread Etimek[14][15], first industrially produced cake, first packaged cake Turti[16], first gluten free cookies Pronot and first 'wek cake' known as Browni are products which Eti has made first. [17] In Eti commercials broadcast in the 70's the song "Bir Bilmecem Var" composed by Oktay Tem [18] the name recognition of Eti increased.

Eti has about 250 brands in total.[19]

Business[edit]

As of 2012, Eti employs about 4 thousand people.[19]

In 2012, Yıldız Holding/Ülker was the leading company in the biscuit sector with a share of 46%, Eti was second place at a 31% share. Eti is older but Ülker had a wider product range. Putting this in perspective however it should be noted that Eti grew from the 26% it had in the sector in 2008 while Ülker went down from its 54% sector hold in 2008.[20] A Garanti Securities research report found that Ülker had lost market share to Eti.[21]

In 2014 Eti had claimed to 45% in the biscuit share in 2014, 1% behind Ülker.[22]

As of March 2018 Eti was found to be 3rd largest Anatolian company (out of all companies, not just the food sector).[23] Back in 2014 Eti was only the 31st largest Turkish company.[24]

In 2014 Eti invested EUR 30 million in a biscuit factory in Craiova, Romania. The Romanian government also aided Eti with EUR 6 million.[25]

In Feb,23 2016 it was disclosed that European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will loan TRY 200,000,000.00 to Eti with the objective of financing the companies capacity expansion and modernization of existing facilities.[26]

In 2014 Eti purchased the ice-cream brand Alaska Frigo for TRY 13 million ($5.7 million or EUR 4.5 million at the time). With this Eti expanded into the ice cream sector.[27]

For the year 2014 Eti also held 12% in the Chocolate sector and 58% of the cake sector. Eti has been dominating the Turkish cake sector since at least 2011 when it had 49% of the cake sector.[22]

Eti exports to 56 countries.[19]

Subsidiaries[edit]

ETI European Food Industries is a Romanian subsidiary of Eti Gida Sanayi ve Ticaret.[28]

Shares[edit]

The Kanatlı family owns 100% of Eti Gıda. Etis market company sold 26% of OYAK shares to Eti Gıda, Eti Gıda also purchased 29% of OYAK shares from TAM Gıda.[19]

Awards[edit]

The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) awarded Eti with the "Advanced Special Award for TPM Achievement".[29]
