Eugene Manning is a Canadian businessman and politician who is currently running for leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.[1] Manning was President of the PC Party before resigning in 2021, citing his inability to stay neutral in the upcoming leadership contest.[2]
Background
Manning was born in St. Bride’s, NL. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Memorial University and now lives in St. John’s with his young family.[3] Manning co-owns and operates J & E Enterprises Limited, a construction firm specializing in coastal and remote projects in his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador.[4] Manning is the nephew of Senator Fabian Manning and the brother of lawyer Judy Manning.[5]
Politics
Manning has been active in the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador for decades, and he was elected party president in 2019. Prior to his election as President, he served as PC Party Vice President.[6] Manning resigned his presidency in April 2021, citing his inability to stay neutral in the upcoming leadership contest.[7] On February 21, 2023, Manning announced his candidacy for leader of the PC Party.[8]
