Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (commonly known as Euro-Med HRM) is an independent, nonprofit organization for the protection of human rights. Its main objective is to raise the level of awareness toward human rights law in the area and to influence the international community to take action against human rights violators.[1]

Richard Falk, the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on "the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967",[2][3] serves as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.[4][5][6]

Euro-med HRM activity has been outlawed in Israel since 2016 by Ministry of Defence decree and now listed as a prohibited organization.[7]

Foundation[edit]

Euro-Mediterranean Human Right Monitor was founded by Ramy Abdu in November 2011 in Geneva, where it maintains its headquarters, facilitating access to European institutions of governance and law, who are its primary targets and audience.

Board of Trustees[edit]

The Euro-Med Monitor’s strategic direction is guided by the Board of Trustees. Meeting at least once a year, the board also contributes to strategic planning. The Board is made up of eminent experts from the world of human rights including professors, leading academics, legal experts, advisors and international activists. Richard A. Falk is the Chairman of the board of trustees; members are: Christine Chinkin, Noura Erakat, Celso Amorim, Lisa Hajjar, Tareq Ismael, and John V. Whitbeck.

Projects[edit]

We Are Not Numbers was a storytelling project launched in February 2015 by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor. The project brings promising young writers from Gaza, who write in English, and provides them with workshops on writing stories and articles, social media, and how to approach a western audience.[citation needed] The project has received wide attention and coverage by media, both locally and internationally, making it a source of inspiration for many young writers who are interested in creative and meaningful writing.[8][9][10][11]

Allegations[edit]

Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has been accused of having ties with several political organizations, such accusations have always been rejected by the Monitor, stressing that their mission is purely humanitarian.[12]
