History[edit]

The EAD’s roots reach the year 1999 and the academic activity of Katarzyna Pisarska and Zbigniew Pisarski - the founders of the Academy. In 2001, they founded a country-wide student association called Forum Młodych Dyplomatów (Forum of Young Diplomats, FMD). Its purpose was to promote civic engagement and popularise the field of Polish foreign policy among young Polish citizens. FMD’s main activities were expert-led workshops and discussion panels.

The formal origins of the European Academy of Diplomacy is the year 2004, when the first edition of the Academy of Young Diplomats took place. The aim of the program was to develop leadership skills and broaden the professional social network of young professionals - originally members of FMD and eventually all the participants interested. About 210 participants from 90 Polish universities took part in the first edition of the program (2004-2005).

From 2004 until now, the EAD has gradually broadened its range of activities, area of research and multinational background of the participants, becoming one of the leading organisations of its kind in Europe[3].
