The European Centre for Living Technology (ECLT) was founded through the EU project PACE (Programmable Artificial Cell Evolution, FP6) in 2004.

It is an international and interdisciplinary research centre set as an inter-university consortium; presently 15 European and extra-European institutional are affiliated.

The Center is hosted by Ca' Foscari University of Venice and is located in the 1400 palace Ca' Bottacin in Venice.

The research focus of the Center is aimed at the study of "Living Technology", technologies that exhibit life-like properties including self-organization, adaptability and the capacity to evolve.

In this regard, a molecular biology wet Laboratory has been set up and hosted an intense research activity.
