European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics

The European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) is a not-for-profit consortium of research institutes in Europe. Its goal is to foster cooperation within the European scientific research community in the fields of informatics, computer science and applied mathematics.
It serves as the European administrator of the W3C.[1]
Background
ERCIM was founded in 1989 by Inria, CWI and GMD (today Fraunhofer Gesellschaft).
Members
ERCIM membership is open to institutional members. Research institutes and Universities are members of ERCIM. Members include CNR (Italy), CWI (The Netherlands), FNR ( Luxembourg), FORTH-ICS, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Germany), INESC-ID (Portugal), Inria (France), ISI (Greece), NTNU (Norway), RISE SICS (Sweden), SBA Research (Austria), SZTAKI (Hungary), TNO (The Netherlands), University of Cyprus (Cyprus), University of Warsaw (Poland), VTT (Finland)
Activities
Activities of the grouping include the "Alain Bensoussain" postdoctoral fellowship programme[2], participation in European research projects[3][4], and the yearly "Cor Baayen Young Researcher Award"[5][6][7]. ERCIM publishes the quarterly magazine ERCIM News[8]
ERCIM has an office located in Sophia Antipolis in France.
ERCIM's 25th anniversary was celebrated in 2014 in Italy[9][10]
