Eva Lwow
Chaje Eva Löwenstamm, also known as Eva Lwow, was a Prussian rebbetzin known for being the paternal grandmother of Karl Marx, a German philosopher who created Marxism.
Life
Eva Lwow was born in Schwabach sometime in 1753 to Bella Lwow (1735-1790) and R’ Moḯses Lwow (1699-1788)[1] likely raised Jewish. Sometime before 1775, she married Marx Levi Mordechai, who either was or became a rabbi during their marriage.
On October 17, 1775, the couple had their first child, R’Schmeul Marx. On April 15, 1782, they had their next and most well-known child, Heinrich Marx. Their third child, Esther Kosel, was born sometime in 1786. Sometime in 1787, they had their next child together, Hirsch Marx. Sometime in 1788, the couple had their fifth child, Moises Levi. Sometime in 1789, they had their sixth child, Babette Blum. At some point in September of 1798, they had their seventh child, Jolem Levi.
On January 16, 1800, they had their eighth and final child together, Jakob Marx. In 1804, Marx Levi Mordechai died. On May 13, 1823, Lwow died in Trier, Prussia, at the age of either 69 or 70.[2]
