Evan Chow Sai-yiu (Chinese:周世耀) is a Hong Kong banker and entrepreneur. He is the great grandson of Li Tse-fong, founder of the Bank of East Asia. In 2010, he joined the MCL Financial Group as a Managing Partner.[1], and founded the Chow Enterprise Group in the same year. Chow has been active in cultural philanthropy and art patronage in recent years, and he currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Centre[2].

Early life and education[edit]

Chow was born in Hong Kong to Dr. Charles Chow Kwok-chi and Patricia Li Chow. He has two elder siblings, Selwyn how and Jacqueline Chow[3]

Chow belongs to the Li family (banking)[4], and his great-grandfather Li Tse-fong founded the Bank of East Asia together with his brother Li Koon-chun, Shouson Chow, Fung Ping-shan and Kan Tung-po. Chow is also related to Dr. Arthur Woo Wai-tak[5], pioneering Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the early 20th century, whose younger sister, Dr. Catherine F. Woo, served as the first headmistress at St. Paul's Co-educational College.

Chow was first educated at St. Paul's Co-educational College, before relocating to the United States and attended Taft School in Connecticut[6]. Chow was later enrolled at Brown University[7] where he received a Bachelor of Arts (Magna Cum Laude) honours degree, majoring in Applied mathematics, Economics and Organization studies.

Upon graduation, Chow worked for several investment banks before setting up his own Family office, the Chow Enterprise Group, in 2010.

Philanthropy and art patronage[edit]

Chow's late great-grandmother, Mrs. May Woo, was one of the few Chinese women active in philanthropy in the early 20th century. She was the Deputy Chairwoman for the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association, a council member of the Helena May[8], and a founding member of the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children. Together with his sister, Chow serves on the Society's management committee. Chow also serves on the Board Committee of several non-profit organizations, including the Young Presidents' Organization, Centum Charitas Foundation and InspiringHK Sports Foundation.

An avid art collector, Chow has been named as one of Asia's Most Influential by Tatler, in accolade of his tireless support of the promotion of art[9]. He serves on the Board Committee of several art institutions worldwide, including the Hong Kong Arts Centre, New Museum, and the Asia Pacific Committee for Centre Pompidou.
