Evertjan van Roekel[edit]

Evertjan van Roekel (Wageningen, the Netherlands, June 9, 1984) is a Dutch historian, jurist and author.

Biography[edit]

In his historical research Van Roekel focuses primarily on the Second World War. He studied Law (Honourable Mention, Utrecht University, 2008) and History, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (Cum Laude, University of Amsterdam, 2009). His master's thesis about Dutch Waffen-SS volunteers was nominated for the Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema Encouragement Prize 2010 (shortlist). His first book 'Jongens van Nederland' published by Uitgeverij Unieboek | The Spectrum in 2011, was based on this thesis.

He has published various articles in different history magazines. He was also a columnist for three years in the magazine Wereld in Oorlog (2011-2014).

Van Roekel wrote the chapter on the Netherlands in 'Joining Hitler's Crusade: European Nations and the Invasion of the Soviet Union, 1941', edited by David Stahel, published by Cambridge University Press in 2017.

His book 'Veldgrauw' on Dutch Waffen-SS volunteers was published in April 2019.
