The Evesham Adventure Playground is a registered charity[1] in the United Kingdom, founded in 1982.[2] The charity provides many services to the community, such as childcare, alternative provision, a community pantry etc.[2] The charity is based in Evesham in Worcestershire where all of its main services are run.
History

The organisation was founded in the summer of 1982 in Evesham[2] by a small group of volunteers and parent who aimed to create a safe place for their children to grow and play. The objective of the group was to start a widespread movement for play and child care. The Evesham Adventure Playground Action Group was formed after a group of parents visited a number of play spaces in London.[3] The parents found themselves unimpressed and so began to collect funding to create a new space of their own that they could safely allow their children to grow up in.
Shortly after the group formed, they located an area of land in Evesham and with help from fundraisers and a Quaker Workcamp, they began to create plans to build their space. As the Playground was being built, the Action Group gained district funding to officially employ playworkers.[3]
As 1990 began, the Playground began to take shape. Many structures had been constructed, and specialists in arts, sports and environmental sciences were part time hired to help enrich the children's learning. Throughout this decade, many fundraisers were carried out, raising funds for more space, trips and activities.[3]
During the 2000s, many changes were made to the playground. Fundraising began to become a struggle and many key staff came and went. In the midst of this, Dave Boucker - a familiar face and someone there from the start - took over and decided that it was time to move on. Dave steered the playground back toward the community and laid the foundations for the Playground as it is today.[3]
The 2010s brought change. A bike workshop was opened, along with a community pantry, and playschemes and out of school club were restarted. As well as this, alternative provision was formalised and integrated as it is today, offering another source of education to children from schools across Worcestershire.[3]
