Evianne van Gijn, University of Cambridge, former Graduate Union President

Evianne van Gijn (born 1988) Ph.D., is the former President of the University of Cambridge Graduate Union.[1][2][3] As President she was a member of the Cambridge University Council.[4] Evianne grew up in Curaçao, Kingdom of the Netherlands. She obtained a bachelor's degree with honours (cum laude) in Psychology and Law from University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, the Netherlands.[5] In 2010 Evianne graduated with an MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology from the University of Cambridge and in 2015 she obtained a PhD in the Department of Psychology under Professor Michael Lamb.[6][7] She received a grant from the Elisabeth Kinderfonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.[8] Her doctoral research focussed on sex offenders who operate online, and their process of 'grooming' or preparing children for offline sexual encounters.[9] Evianne is a life member of Clare Hall, Cambridge.[10][11]

Evianne has osteogenesis imperfecta. In 2007 Evianne was a finalist in a reality TV programme, the Dutch version of Miss Ability (TROS Mis(s) Verkiezing).[12][13][14][15][16] She lobbied for disabled people’s rights and accessibility in the workplace as well as opportunities for disabled students to attend university.[17][18] Evianne is currently active in the Care4BrittleBones Foundation whereby she aims to raise awareness for osteogenesis imperfecta and generate funds for medical research.[19]
