Evolution Productions is a production company run by Paul Hendy and Emily Wood. Formed in 2005, they produce films, large-scale theatrical productions and national theatre tours in the UK and abroad.

History

Evolution Productions was founded in 2005 by Paul Hendy and Emily Wood.[1]. They have produced over 60 theatre productions including a national tour of the Olivier-award-winning play Morecambe, a national UK tour of Mister Maker and the Shapes and several award-winning pantomimes[2]. In 2017/18, their production of Peter Pan at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury was seen by over 100,000[3] people and took over £2 million at the Box Office. The British Theatre Guide called the show ‘one of the best productions in the country’.

In 2016, Evolution produced the multi-award-winning short film, ‘The Last Laugh’, which was written and directed by Paul Hendy.

In 2018, Evolution acquired the film rights to Tim Whitnall’s Olivier-award-winning play, ‘Morecambe’ and plan to make it into a feature film with the title ‘Mr Sunshine’.

Film

In 2016, Paul Hendy wrote and directed the short film, The Last Laugh. The film sees Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, and Bob Monkhouse sitting in a dressing room discussing the secret of comedy and what it means to be funny. The film starred Bob Golding, Damian Williams and Simon Cartwright and was a huge success on the International Film Festival circuit winning numerous awards including ‘Best UK Film’ and ‘Best UK Short’ at Manchester Film Festival[4], ‘Best Comedy Drama’ at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival[5] and Best Actor at the Discover Film Festival (where all three actors won Best Actor)[6]

Evolution have also produced several low/ ‘no budget’ short films including ‘Ski Fall’, ‘You Only Ski Twice’, ‘My Teachers are Aliens’ and ‘Home Alone (in Eastry)’[7]

Pantomimes

Evolution Productions currently produce 8 pantomimes each year around the country, and have performed with some of the top names in Show Biz including: Stephen Mulhern, Phil Gallagher, Rita Simons, Scott Maslen, Gareth Gates and even George Takei[8][9][10][11][12]. Producing new and original pantomimes each year, complete with new sets and costumes.
