Ewa Dutkiewicz
Ewa Dutkiewicz (* 1978 in Stettin[1]) is a German prehistoric archaeologist.
Biography
Ewa Dutkiewicz studied Assyriology[1] and Near Eastern archaeology[2] at the Free University of Berlin from 2001 to 2005. After subsequent studies abroad at the University of Lyon, she transferred to the University of Tübingen where she studied Pre- and Protohistory (Magister 2012, Die Grotte de La Verpillière I - 150 Jahre Forschungsgeschichte).[3] She deepened her academic career with a PhD (2018), specializing in Paleolithic signs and symbolism. From 2011 to 2018 she was curator responsible for the conceptual development and scientific supervision of the Archaeopark Vogelherd.[2] Since 2019 she has been curator at the Museum of Pre- and Early History in Berlin, where she is particularly in charge of the Stone Age department. Since 2024 she has also been conducting research as a Postdoc in the ERC project EVINE, which focuses on visual information processing in early human history.[4] Ewa Dutkiewicz is managing director of the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory.[5] She gained attention in 2024 through the discovery, described in the press as sensational, of the earliest documented multi-component adhesive – produced by Neanderthals more than 40,000 years ago. Her research is considered a milestone in understanding the cognitive abilities of early humans.[6]
