History[edit]

Eyeconic was founded in 2011 by VSP Global, Inc., as an online contact lens retailer for limited VSP Vision Insurance members. During the period from 2011 to 2015, the company expanded its products to also include prescription eyewear and sunglasses and opened the site to members and non-members. In 2015, Eyeconic added progressive lenses to its product offerings as well as anti-reflection, blue light reduction and light-reactive lens package enhancements.

Retail Model[edit]

Eyeconic sells 37 designer brands of eyewear online and nationwide with the ability for customers to connect their vision benefits and apply their frame and contact allowances directly to their purchases. Using Ditto virtual try-on, visitors can shop different frames based on actual look and fit.[5] After an order is received, each pair of glasses goes through an 25-point inspection for quality assessment. [6] Eyeconic also offers customers a choice of the most popular contact lenses from manufacturers such as Acuvue, Air Optix, Avaira, Bausch+Lomb, Biofinity, Biomedics, Biotrue, Clariti, Clearsight, Dailies, Expressions, Extreme H2O, Focus Dailies, Frequency 55, Freshlook, Hydrasoft, MyDay, Optima, Preference, Proclear, PureVision, Soflens, and Vertex. Eyeconic is available to customers via telephone, chat, and email for support.[7] Eyeconic requires an up-to-date prescription and recommends annual comprehensive eye exams since vision needs can change from year-to-year. Comprehensive eye exams can also help screen for other eye related issues like color blindness to blind spots and glaucoma, and can even reveal signs of high blood pressure or cancer.[8] Partnering with VSP’s network of doctors, Eyeconic offers a find a doctor tool to help customers find providers in their area.
