Career[edit]

He started his career as a data scientist but at the age of 27 he decided photography was his real passion.

Since then he worked his way up as a photographer doing multiple exhibitions in Europe. From the Bozar in Belgium to Le Louvre in Paris.

One of his most iconic photos Let's Dance (Riga, 2005) was selected for a special Black&White photography exhibition at Le Louvre.

Artist Statement[edit]

Van Imschoot's work explores the relationship between the body and urban spaces.

A lot of his work can be considered as faux surrealism or some others would call it Magic Realism; bringing a fresh presentation of the everyday life, using unusual points of views or common objects presented in an uncanny way often including a bit of humour or irony.

Influenced by William Klein and Daido Moriyama. The high contrast Black and White photography will lose detail but will massively gain in character; grey gets dissolved into white or black and people often become silhouettes in their own environment.

What starts out as normal soon becomes debased into an artistic manifesto of contrast between day and night.

The viewer is left with a statement of the light and the darkness of our culture.

Ever since he was a student he has been fascinated by the traditional understanding of the zeitgeist; capturing the inexorable truth within the divergence of the moment.
