Engine Construction and Specifications[edit]
The F33A-FTV is a 3.3L (3346 cc) V6, 4 stroke diesel engine. It features a cast-iron, closed deck construction similar to the previous 1VD-FTV . The engine features a forged carbon steel crankshaft and connecting rods, steel piston with Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating to improve wear resistance. Bore and stroke is 86.0 x 96.0 mm (3.39 x 3.78 in), with a compression ratio of 15.4:1. For forced induction, the engine has two turbochargers and intercoolers in Hot-V configuration with variable geometry (VGT) and is a sequential turbocharger setup similar to the 2JZ-GTE, where at low seeds it runs on a single-turbocharger mode while at higher speeds it runs on twin-turbo mode. This engine has dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) with 4 valves per cylinder meaning, it has a total of 24 valves.[2]
This engine produces 229.7 KW of power at 4000 RPM and 700 NM of torque at 1600-2500 RPM. In other markets the engines produces this engine produces 222.9 KW of power at 3600-4500 RPM with the same torque specification.[1]
Claimed Improvements[edit]
The F33A-FTV engine produces 9% more power and 8% more torque than its predecessor, the 1VD-FTV, with a 13% reduction in fuel consumption.
The new twin-turbo setup enables more power acceleration at lower speeds, whilst at higher speeds, the larger intake volume from the turbocharger setup enables for more smooth acceleration.[3]
Applications[edit]
- 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser (VJA300)
- 2021 Lexus LX (LX500d) (VJA310R)
