FIDE Arbiter

In chess, FIDE Arbiter is a title awarded by FIDE to individuals deemed capable of acting as arbiter in chess matches. The arbiters are responsible for ensuring the rules and laws of chess are adhered to.

Requirements for the title to be awarded are detailed in section B.06 of the FIDE Handbook. As well as thorough knowledge of the laws of chess and a proved impartiality, they include the ability to speak a FIDE-approved language and previous experience as an arbiter in tournaments. FIDE Arbiters are further categorized by FIDE into two groups, in order of experience, from group D to C. The FIDE World Chess Federation displays the list of Chess Arbiters with their ID numbers, name, and title on its official web site.

FIDE Arbiters are in higher level of National Arbiters and in lower level of International Arbiters. For Achieving FIDE Arbiter title, You have to Achieve National Arbiter title first, then do all of these:

  • Applicants for the title of FA (FIDE Arbiter) must be at least 21 years old.
  • Attendance of at least one (1) FIDE Arbiters' Seminar and successful passing (at least 80%) an examination test set up by the Arbiters Commission.
  • Experience as Arbiter in at least three (3) FIDE events (these can be either national or international)

After Achieving These she/he can apply for FIDE Arbiter title.
