FR Scuti (also known as FR Sct or HIP 90115) is a variable star located in the constellation of Scutum. It is classified as a symbiotic star of the Z Andromedae type and is notable for being a hierarchical triple system resembling the VV Cephei-type binaries. It consists of a red supergiant primary and a close binary pair of hot OB-type stars.[3]

FR Scuti is a hierarchical triple star system of the VV Cephei type. The primary component is an M-type supergiant, while the secondary is a close binary consisting of two OB-type stars. VV Cephei-type systems are characterized by eclipsing binaries involving a cool supergiant and a hot companion, often showing composite spectra with emission lines. In FR Scuti, the spectrum is peculiar and composite, featuring strong forbidden Fe II emission lines, typical of such systems.
The system's variability and spectral peculiarities were analyzed using data from ASAS, Hipparcos, and other archival photometry to confirm its triple nature.
