Fabloo is a genre of music that was coined by the 2000s, Ann Arbor band Tally Hall, but has roots prior to that in the Michigan band Lemon Demon.

History

In 2003, Michigan band Lemon Demon was formed and is considered a "Godfather of Fabloo."

In 2005, Ann Arbor band Tally Hall would release their first studio album titled "Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum".

In 2013,[citation needed] an interview with Tally Hall members Zubin Sedghi and Rob Cantor stated that their genre of 'Wonky Rock' was being too defined, so they changed it to a new genre known as Fabloo.[1]

Cantor later states that he didn't realize so many people paid attention to that.

In 2012, Joe Hawley of Tally Hall created another band named ミラクルミュージカル, or "Miracle Musical," with other members of Tally Hall. This band would mix genres of Fabloo and Surreal for their music.[2]

In 2014, Cantor would release a solo album called "Not A Trampoline," which had unused Tally Hall songs and solo work.

In 2016, Lemon Demon released their album "Spirit Phone."[3]

In late 2016, Hawley would produce a solo album named "Joe Hawley Joe Hawly," which featured old Tally Hall songs along with originals.

In 2020, internet personality and streamer Wilbur Soot released the album "Your City Gave Me Asthma,"[4] sending Fabloo back into the mainstream.

Characteristics

Fabloo is characterized by a mixture of instruments and sounds meant to show many emotions or ideas. The genre is known for having instruments be easily replaceable, such as drums being replaced with or used alongside bongos.[5]

The genre is also said to be a mix of several other genres including Rock, Ska, Swing, Surrealist, among many more.

The genre also uses backwards and forwards time for a surreal effect.[6][7]
