Active since the mid-1990s, they have composed and produced for major J-pop artists and later transitioned to scoring music for television dramas and feature films. Their works include soundtracks for Lupin no Musume, Cells at Work! (live-action adaptation), and the film series Fly Me to the Saitama.[1]

History

Face 2 fAKE was founded in 1994 and started professional activities in 1995. They initially gained recognition in the late 1990s by composing and producing songs for artists such as SMAP and Rina Takahashi.[2]

During the 2000s and 2010s, they provided music for numerous television dramas and films, including Gallery Fake (2005), Lupin's Daughter (2019–2020) and its 2021 film adaptation. In 2022, they composed the score for the NHK drama The Great Passage, based on the award-winning novel.[4]

In 2019, they scored the hit film Fly Me to the Saitama, which grossed over 3.7 billion yen, earning them the Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music in 2020.[5] They returned for the sequel Fly Me to the Saitama: From Lake Biwa with Love (2023) and scored the live-action film Cells at Work! (2024), released by Warner Bros. Japan.[6] The film earned over 6.3 billion yen, and they received the same award again in 2025.[7][8]
