Facilis Technology Inc. (known as Facilis) is an American technology company with headquarters in Hudson, Massachusetts. It develops, builds, supports advanced network shared storage for post-production, broadcast, and content creation in the media and entertainment industries.
History[edit]
Facilis Technology Inc. was founded in November 2003 by Francis Albert who previously worked at technology companies including Avid Technology and Raytheon. Mr. Albert helped engineer early shared storage products at Avid Technology as well as the development of storage functionality inside the Avid Media Composer product family.
Facilis Technology was initially headquartered at 43 Broad Street in Hudson, MA from 2004-2007, and at 577 Main Street, Hudson, MA from 2007-2012. The current headquarters is located at 108 Forest Ave, Hudson, MA.[1][2], with offices also located in Beaverton, Oregon.
The TerraBlock 24D server was first shipped in June 2004, with additional server models shipped soon after (12D and 8XS). The TerraBlock storage server was connected to client workstations through Fibre Channel, presenting storage units that could be formatted in a file system most compatible with the client operating system. These virtual volumes could be mounted to a single client with write permission, and multiple clients with read-only permissions.
Additional products were shipped in the coming years, including LTO tape, nearline drive arrays, drive set capacity expansions, SSD and hybrid servers (HDD/SSD), asset management software, and an aggregation server for scaled environments.
In 2019, Facilis announced a new hardware line, HUB Shared Storage, that would take the place of the TerraBlock name used for previously shared storage hardware generations[3]
